The zombie apocalypse? Oh yes, it’s coming. It’s only a matter of when… and when it happens, will you be prepared? The CDC has begun to think about this, so has National Geographic and thousands of people from around the country. Have you? When the power goes out, will you have the skills necessary to survive?
In this course, students will learn the basics of farm animal keeping; preserving food; crafting personal hygiene essentials; gardening; baking; producing maple syrup and honey; basic herbal medicines and first aid; fiber crafts; creating light and fire; and fundamentals of self-defense… against zombies, of course. Students will walk away from this course with basic skills necessary to understand self-sufficiency and survival in an emergency situation. Students successfully completing the course will earn their certification of Zombie Apocalypse Survival Skills!
The course is designed to be hands-on and completely interactive. We want students doing, learning, involved, conversing, acting, creating, and doing hands-on, minds-involved learning. This course is much more than doing simple ‘crafts’. We plan to dig deeper, on an intellectual level, doing and learning while researching and exploring. We will have an array of guest speakers, activities, and mini-field trips during our two weeks together. Parts of the class will be ‘on the farm’ and in the kitchen, in the classroom on campus, and at various locations in the local area. Students will also come away from the class with many ‘consumables’ that can be used, eaten, saved, or shared with friends.
